Electrical shorts not only create intermittent or permanent failures, they are a cause of potential fires.

What is a short? Shorts Occur in a Circuit. Electricity flows in a circuit. A short occurs when the flow of energy moves outside of its intended flow. Whatever the cause of this interruption, you must address a short immediately. If not, the short can be an immediate and direct safety issue and as well as result in a fire.

Potential causes may be:

  • poor crimping resulting in stray wire strands

  • solder bridge between contacts

  • incorrect splices

  • faulty wiring insulation

  • improper testing including issues with test fixtures, adapters, test protocols or test program

Potential remedies:

  • visual inspection of connections for solder, stray stands

  • visual inspection of connectors and splices

  • validate designed in current draw to test programs and specifications

  • ensure test programs account for all potential faults
